Kelowna Sleep Apnea Clinic
Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) and Sleep Disordered Breathing (SDB) are much more common than you might think. Does your partner complain that you snore at night? Do you wake up in the morning feeling tired and unrested? Do you have a difficult time staying awake and alert throughout the day? All of these symptoms could mean that you're having trouble breathing while you sleep. OSA is a progressive disease that, if left untreated, can result in whole host of issues. As a result of this, we screen every patient here at Knox Mountain Dentistry for signs of OSA and SDB.
I think I might have OSA, now what?
For those that screen positive, we may suggest that you consider participating in a sleep study. In coordination with your family physician, we can organize a referral to the local sleep clinic where we can sort out what is happening after you close your eyes for the night. Should you test positive for OSA, then the sleep clinic physician will make recommendation for treatment depending on the severity of your condition.
The gold standard for treatment of OSA is C-PAP therapy, however in some cases treatment of OSA with a dental appliance is appropriate. Depending on your diagnosis and recommended course of treatment, we at Knox Mountain Dentistry may be able to help you get a better nights sleep!
